The PDC Darts World Championship has now reached the quarter-final stage and as we approach 2023, eight of the finest darts players on the planet are dreaming of the ultimate glory. We already know that we will have a new name on the trophy after reigning champion Peter Wright was knocked out by Kim Huybrechts.
But who do the bookies think will be lifting that famous trophy on Tuesday?
Having beaten Dirk van Duijvenbode on Friday night, Michael van Gerwen is now the stand alone favourite to lift his fourth World Championship title. He’s priced at EVS with Betfred, having last won in 2019 and is desperate to return to the pinnacle of the sport having failed to produce at Ally Pally in recent years.
His main competition could come from the Iceman Gerwyn Price. The Welshman who divides opinion has looked good at times during this tournament and is safely through to the quarter-finals where he will now face Gabriel Clemens. He’s currently third favourite at 9/2 to win the World Championship with Betfred.
The German, ranked 25th in the world, has done brilliantly to reach this stage, as he dumped out Alan Soutar with a 4-1 win in the last round. Meanwhile, Michael Smith smashed Joe Cullen in the round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals, as he looks to go one further than he did last year.
Bully Boy is 7/2 with Betfred, second favourite to lift the crown and he is a serious contender given what he has shown so far at Ally Pally. If you fancy an outsider, how about Stephen Bunting?
He defeated ‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries in style in the final match of 2022, and will return on New Year’s Day to face Smith in a mouthwatering encounter. He’s 22/1 to go all the way, while Dimitri van den Burgh (16/1) or Jonny Clayton (9/1) could provide good value given one of them will be in the final four.
The rank outsider is currently Gabriel Clemes at 50/1. The German Giant has been one of the most popular players at Ally Pally this year and if you believe he can cause an upset against Price, you should take advantage of that price. If he gets the win over the Welshman, it will not only take the roof off, but see his price shrink drastically.
